I am Zoe Morton, proud founder of Ashdown Veterinary Physiotherapy. Animals have been my passion my whole life. My primary love as a child and young adult was horses, spending hours at the weekend learning all I could at my favourite riding stable yard yearning for a pony of my own, until one day my parents gave in, and my dream came true of becoming a pony owner. Leaving school, I studied riding, stable care and horse husbandry at Plumpton College of Agriculture whilst simultaneously working on an Egyptian Arabian Stud Farm.
My studies then took a turn away from animals for a while, which was when my interest in physiotherapy was inspired after completing my first degree, BA (Hons) in Dance at Middlesex University. I was intrigued by the human body and movement and how it worked, so was a natural progression that I wanted to learn how to fix it when it went wrong. It was then the epiphany happened for me that I would love to combine my two passions in life, and my road to veterinary physiotherapy had begun.
I completed my BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy at London South Bank University in 2011 and embarked upon a wide range of learning all aspects of physiotherapy within the NHS for the next 9 years, including my predominant interest in Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation, Orthopaedics, Neurology, Respiratory and Hydrotherapy. I have completed my training in western acupuncture (for Humans only) which can compliment more traditional physiotherapy interventions to manage pain and muscular tension.
During this period, my passion for dogs began with our rescue dogs, which inevitably came with the deep need to want to understand their behaviour and how they communicate, so became fascinated with animal psychology and behaviour, with a special interest in how their behaviour is affected by pain.
I finally took the plunge to complete my career journey by applying for the PG (Dip) in Veterinary Physiotherapy at University of Liverpool in 2020. Graduating in 2022, I feel immense sense of pride and joy at now being able to help you with your beloved animals when they need it most. Whether that be for preventative advice for your wayward youngsters, intense rehabilitation after acute trauma, maintaining prime fitness for your working/sporting animal, or giving that extra care and maintenance for your ageing or elderly animals to maintain their quality of life.
